Welcome to Island Bohemian Bowls Club Website.
We are a friendly, family club, situated at the very heart of Reading on a
historic and picturesque island in the middle of the River Thames. [Our postcode is indeed RG1].
Our membership is drawn from across the whole of the Reading / Caversham area
(inc. Earley, Emmer Green, Calcot, Caversham Park, Tilehurst and Woodley).
New members are welcome, so if you are interested click
Give Bowls a Try
The green is open everyday of the week from May until mid-September each year
and we enjoy mixed membership, having active sections for both the Ladies and
Men's bowling.
Junior members are welcome but the Island can only be accessed by
boat so wheelchair access is not currently possible.
Island bowlers enter most of the County and National competitions and have on
occasions done very well.
The Thames Valley Ladies League includes a strong entry from our Ladies
Section of a team known as the 'Swans'.
The Men's Section currently has a team in the Kennet League and for
gentlemen over the age of 55 years we have two teams ('A' & 'B')
that compete in the Kennet LV Triples League.
Social events in the summer include Barbeques,
and a very special Riverboat Outing.
We also hold an Annual
Presentation Dinner & Dance in November, a Pantomime or Variety Show and a
New Years Eve Party.
The annual 'Spring Tour' weekend by coach, normally to the West Country, is very
popular.
A number of regular theme based Games Evenings are organised for Saturday
nights during winter months, providing a great night-out for those wishing to
join in with some good hearted fun.
One of our past President, in his inaugural speech said he wanted the club to be
acknowledged as a "nice place to be" and it certainly is!
